The Map Collection in the Digital Library contains approximately 8,000 selected records from several smaller collections including the Museum Book Store Maps, Solano-Reeve, and Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office. The collection is strongest in California, the West, and North America. Additional entries will be added, and some records evaluated and reviewed, as available. A note regarding the Solano-Reeve collection: this collection consists of maps, field books, legal documents, business papers, and diaries related to the work of surveyors George Hansen, Alfred Solano, and others. This database provides an overview of the maps and surveys in the collection, which cover the City of Los Angeles, Southern California ranchos, and subdivisions of the City of Los Angeles and neighboring towns.
